He start s to live in the dec eased& #39;s apar tment, di gging throu gh his life,  getting involv ed with  people Ma rjan Ozim knew, gradually tak ing over h is identit y. As the story p rogress, the r easons for  the inspector 's obs ession are  revealed step  by step.  One of them is deat h of his  daughter E va, who died  in a car a ccident, when Dusa n was dri ving the car . His ex-wi fe blam es him  for theirs daughter& #39;s deat h in the accid ent, which  took place on the very same  bridge where  Marjan Ozim c ommitted  suicide. From time to time, D usan retu rns to  the bridge,  the loc ation o f both acciden ts, where he looks down into the abyss below, per haps consideri ng taking his  own life. D usan develops a n unusu al relationsh ip with Marj an& #39;s forme r secret lover Milena. He  finds out tha t she blam es herse lf for Marj an' s death, becau se she le ft him to retu rn to her  family. Even tually she discovers tha t Marja n had other lov ers while he was seeing her. This b eautiful, somewhat  mysterious wo man enr aptures Du san as we ll. The divid ing lin e between i nspector Dusan &#39 ;s and the Mar jan Ozim&# 39;s life i s slowly dis appearing .
