It will move you and touch you and make you think, but if I told you what it is and told you how its done you will think its the stupidest thing on the face of it and you won&#39;t watch it." Intrigued I asked what did he mean, and he said, &amp;quot;Well its a Frankenstein story, with a very goofy sort of edge, but which uses it to its advantage.&amp;quot; My ears perked up, and I being a trusting soul took the tape and watched it. I was blown away. The plot concerns a mad scientist attempting to make a new Adam and Eve in the wake of a suicidal plague that is ravaging the world. Locked up in his lab his experiments go differently then either he or we expect. Some of it is silly (The bolts in the neck, the wrestling moves...), all of it is touching and thought provoking. I can not recommend this movie enough. If you are willing to take the film on its terms and allow it to tell its story then I urge you to seek this film out and see it. This is an undiscovered gem that will stay with you forever. 15 out of 10 and then some. 10/10 Also known as &quot;The Last Frankenstein&quot;, this is an extraordinary, impeccably produced horror film. Director Takeshi Kawamura uses Mary Shelley&#39;s novel as a mere launching pad for an exploration of subjects as diverse and fascinating as the nature of love, desire, suicide, mass hypnosis, sex, alienation and jealousy. And though the film is dense with subtext, it is also stunningly photographed and rich in atmosphere and detail. The performances are all amazing and Kawamura&amp;#39;s sensitive handling of the strange, delicate relationships between the characters results in an emotionally charged, angst-ridden tragedy. The scenes of the confused, troubled monster hurtling through a fog-shrouded forest at night are memorable and striking, as is a brilliant home movie-style montage of the film's more curious characters enjoying a precious afternoon at the beach. Kawamura creates resonating visual poetry of horror and sadness barely sighted since Todd Browning&#39;s classic &quot;Freaks&amp;quot;.
